Piemonte 2007
Cykelsemestern 2007 fortsatte till Piemonte. Gud vad vackert. Cykelvänligt. Höga kullar och djupa dalar. Böljande landskap. Lite turister. Vi bodde på Tenuta Montanello i Castellione de Falletto. En vingård med underbara viner framförallt deras Barolo var mycket bra.
Todd b Alexander säger: Enter the Montanello Barolo Cru Montanello 2004 97/100, a wine that has not brought this much personal excitement since tasting the Conterno’s 1970 Monfortino, or more recently Terenzuola’s Merla della Minera (no, it’s not merlot!) for its ability to show sublime purity and focus using canaiolo and colorino! A third of the wine was aged a year in new oak, another third in 1 year-old oak, and the last portion in 2-year old oak. This is what barolo wants and should be. Roses, mushrooms, tar, concentrated cherry, touches of tea and black pepper; it is all here, showing plenty now in its youth but promising to excite the crowd in years to come. The tannins are as silky as an Armani suit yet the structure is Fort Knox. This is the finest young barolo I’ve tasted in over a decade and consumers looking to start or complete their collection of barolo should start here at Tenuta Montanello.
I orten Barolo fanns en helt fantastiskt restaurang. Bilen blev inför hemfärden full av peiemontesiska viner. VI MÅSTE ÅTERVÄNDA. På hemresan gick, som vanligt, min axel ur led.
